Inaugurating 22 Literacy Mothers; Banyuasin Regency Heads towards Smart Society

Banyuasin, South Sumatra — The efforts of Banyuasin Regency Government (Pemkab) to encourage its people to be smart and prosperous are no joke. One of the proofs is inaugurating 22 sub-district literacy mothers, including Banyuasin Regency Literacy Mother Sri Fitriyanti Askolani. Literacy mothers are expected to become role models who inspire the growth of reading fondness for Banyuasin community.

“Literacy mothers who are appointed are the first madrasas for children and families. This is a joint effort in helping the success of Banyuasin Regency Government's vision and mission to create smart society. Literacy Mother is a role model that the community wants, said South Sumatra Literacy Mother Percha Leanpuri, after the inauguration of 22 Literacy Mothers, Thursday (3/12/2020).

In fact, Percha said she is proud of Kab. Banyuasin as the only regency in South Sumatera that has literacy mothers up to sub-district level. On the same occasion, Deputy Regent of Kab. Banyuasin Slamet Soemosentono appealed to the people of Banyuasin Regency that is currently still in a pandemic condition, the obligation to foster reading fondness should not be ignored. "The inauguration of 22 literacy mothers is role model and figure to create quality, sustainable human resources," he said.

 Meanwhile, Head of Library Analysis and Reading Culture Development Centre of National Library Adin Bondar Pasaribu representing National Library expressed support for Banyuasin regional government in boosting literacy through the inauguration of 22 literacy mothers.

"With reading fondness, the quality of literacy will improve so that Indonesians are no longer a market for foreign (international) markets," said Adin Bondar.

The inauguration of literacy mother was accompanied by a workshop that presented such speakers as Navy Commander (Danlanal) Colonel Filda Malari, who shared tips on maximising right and left brain for memorising abilities.

At the end of the activity, National Library symbolically handed over Mobile Library Car assistance to Deputy Regent of Banyuasin.
