At ORI Poetry Festival, Director of National Library Reads His Poem

Jakarta - National Library of Indonesia is involved in Indonesian Ombudsman Library Poetry Festival "The Face of Public Service in Poetry" held in the context of Youth Pledge Day and Language Month. On this occasion, Director of National Library, Muhammad Syarif Bando, read a poem entitled "The Reader" which is his composition.

The following is the poem "The Reader":

He who doesn't like reading, he sees but his heart is blind

He who does not like reading, he is clever but accompanied by ignorance

He who doesn't like reading, he hears but his ears are closed

He who doesn't like reading, he knows but doesn't understand

He who does not like reading, he covers his lips with dead letters

He who is good at reading, he who understands

He who understands, he is in control

He who is in control, he becomes smart

He who is smart, he is called clever

He who is good at reading, close to God

Niniek L Karim, as the commentator of the poem, stated that through his poem, Director of National Library clearly emphasised the importance of reading. “So that we are not stupid, not blind, deaf, and mute neither as individuals nor as God's creatures. Amen, Mr. Director of Library,” explained the artist on an online event on Tuesday (27/10/2020).

Meanwhile, Chairperson of Indonesian Ombudsman, Amzulian Rifai, through the rhyme he read, stated that one of the objectives of the event was to preserve the nation's customs and culture. Therefore, institutional customs must be preserved for the sustainability of the country.

He hopes the poetry festival can inspire people in the midst of the world's noise to continue working for their beloved country. "Indonesian Ombudsman is very grateful for the participation of all parties. It could be that this poetry festival is just a piece of effort to forge enthusiasm for all of us, a spirit that is very much needed for our country, for our duties, in fulfilling them for the mandate charged to each of our shoulders," he concluded.
