DPD RI Work Visit to National Library: DPD Ready to Assist and Collaborate with National Library

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta - Three members of Regional Representative Council (DPD) RI Commission III paid a work visit to National Library (Perpusnas) on Monday afternoon (31/8). The three DPD members includes Chairperson of Commission III Sylviana Murni, Evi Apita Maya, and H.M Fadhil Rami. In this face-to-face meeting, DPD is ready to collaborate and assist National Library’s programme of library and reading fondness.

"We are ready to assist National Library when carrying out work visits to the regions or engaging programmes. We also want to contribute, " said Sylviana Murni.

Responding to the good intentions conveyed by DPD, Director of National Library Muhammad Syarif Bando said the most important thing that can be done is to change the paradigm about education goals and foster literacy awareness in society. "Literacy is the depth of knowledge a person has that can be obtained by reading activeness," explained Syarif Bando.

Whether we realise it or not, the format of education in Indonesia is concerned with learning activities and examinations. That applies from kindergarten to college. It is different in other countries where there is a tiered process so that when you graduate from college, you become ready-to-use human resources.

"Ideally, Indonesian youth when they finish their education, they become youth development. Youths who actively contribute to development, are good at finding solutions to every obstacle, think creatively, are full of innovation, and are even able to open new jobs, " said Syarif Bando.

At the end of the meeting, Director of National Library handed over a symbolic aid in the form of book collection with the total of 1,000 copies to DPD.
