Ministry of Home Affairs Encourages Innovation and Facilitates Library Development in the Regions

Medan Merdeka Utara, Jakarta — Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) encourages innovation and facilitates library development in the regions. The commitment was expressed by Secretary General of Ministry of Home Affairs Hadi Prabowo after receiving an audience of Director of National Library of Indonesia Syarif Bando at Building A Ministry of Home Affairs, Jakarta, Wednesday (22/1/2020).


"So, this meeting is within the framework of intensifying collaboration programme that has been fostered so far between Ministry of Home Affairs and National Library of Indonesia. Of course, Ministry of Home Affairs strongly encourages innovation and facilitation in library development in the regions, both in terms of institutional aspect of local government organisation and in preparing library infrastructure. And of course, Library Office (National) will also facilitate material provision and IT-based applications development for regional advancement," said Hadi.


He also said, his party would continue to encourage library development in the regions so that people gain knowledge through libraries. "Library, we encourage it and make it a priority for library development in the regions, including libraries are now not only books, (but also) application and use of IT, so that the community will also gain new knowledge," he said.


According to Hadi, library development is in line with National Development Vision mandated by President Joko Widodo, namely in terms of developing superior and quality Human Resources. Therefore, library development is a common concern as a forum for developing human resources.

Meanwhile, Director of National Library of Indonesia Syarif Bando said that library development in addition to the mandate of national development vision, is also an implementation of Law No. 23 of 2014 on Regional Government, as well as other related laws.


"I think we start from Law No. 23 of 2014 on Regional Government, also Law of Ministry of Villages that mandate on how to develop facilities for the betterment of society," said Syarif.


Not only that, his visit to Ministry of Home Affairs as well as to cordially invite Minister of Home Affairs to attend Coordination Meeting and Meeting of Directors of National Library in the Asian Region.


"Then, the most important thing is that we want to meet with Minister of Home Affairs at the coordination meeting ,that we scheduled in the 3rd week of February, and secondly we will be hosting the meeting with Directors of National Library in the Asian region which is currently about 30 countries have stated that they are ready to attend, and will take place on February 18 in Bali," he explained.
