Palembang Municipality Ready to Draft Regional Regulation on Library

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta-Palembang Municipality Parliament and Library and Archives Service Office of Palembang Municipality visited National Library Service Building, Wednesday (5/2). The visit received directly by Director of National Library Muhammad Syarif Bando was carried out to consult with regard to the preparation of regional regulations on library.


Chairperson of DPRD Special Committee III of Palembang Municipality Ferry Anugerah, hopes that work visit to National Library can deepen the contents of regional regulation on library in Palembang, so that at the time of regional regulation approval, it can be put to the best use.


In line with this, Head of Palembang Municipality Library Development Division Agus Salim said that Palembang library does not yet have a regulation on library. This visit aims to gain knowledge and direction on regulation drafting for the sake of library operation in Palembang.


Responding to this, Muhammad Syarif Bando said library is supported by ten de facto laws. Among them, the 1945 Constitution in which the state's goal is to educate the life of the nation is written, National Education System Law 2003 aiming to improve human resources quality, Law on Book, Law on Cultural Progress, Law No. 6 of 2014 on Villages, Law No. 13 of 2018 on Submission and Deposit of Printed and Recorded Works, ITE Law, Law on Library and Law on ASN.


"The law is not just about making narratives about the need for libraries. But it must be able to provide the realisation of a good library in the regions. Referring to the UNESCO standard, at least two or three new books are bought for the community every year," concluded Syarif Bando.
