Social Affairs Ministry Holds Audience on National Hero Proposal

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta - National Hero is a title given by the President to someone who has passed away or died due to struggle, devotion, and extraordinary work for the nation and the state. This was revealed by Director of Heroism, Pioneering, Solidarity and Social Restoration of Ministry of Social Affairs, Bambang Sugeng, at National Library Service Building, Wednesday (5/2).

"The awarding of national hero title is not only given to someone who died fighting but also those with achievements and has extraordinary work," he said.

Bambang explained, based on Law No. 20 of 2009, there are several conditions to apply for the title of National Hero. General conditions include Indonesian citizens, having moral integrity and exemplary behaviour, serving the nation and the state, loyal and do not betray the nation and the state, have never been sentenced to prison.

As for special conditions, the title is given to those who have died or passed away and who in their lifetime, have led and carried out an armed struggle or political struggle or struggle in other fields to achieve, seize, defend and fill the independence and realise national unity and integrity, never surrender to the enemy in the struggle, devoted almost all of their life, ever brought forth great ideas or thoughts, carried out a struggle that has wide scope and national impact.

"The public can submit if there is someone who meets these requirements to be nominated for the title of national hero. It starts with community support and completes the required documents," he explained.
