Increasing Community Literacy Index, Sidoarjo Regency Builds Library down to Village Level

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta - DPRD in each region has the role in determining the course of governance, Sidoarjo Regency is no exception, both in terms of supervision and authority, including in the field of library. And for the sake of increasing community's literacy index, Sidoarjo Regency wants to build library down to village/kelurahan level. Therefore, his party needs a master plan as a guide to encourage village library development.

"We have given full encouragement to the existence of libraries in Sidoarjo Regency. However, we still need a master plan so that village library construction can be realised," said Ali Sutjipto, a member of Sidoarjo Regency parliament at National Library, Monday (10/2).

Responding to this, Director of National Library Muhammad Syarif Bando explained that the true knowledge gained from reading books can really make a country to progress more rapidly. That can be interpreted that library can take this nation into a productive nation with prosperous society.

"Library in its context, there are three, able to manage collections, manage knowledge and share knowledge (knowledge transfer)," Syarif Bando added.

In this 21st century, the ability to transfer knowledge is essential for the welfare of the community, especially those in villages.
