Archive and Library are Inseparable

Salemba, Jakarta - Acting Head of National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) M. Taufik along with his staff paid a visit to National Library, Friday (2/14). The visit was received directly by Director of National Library, Muhammad Syarif Bando and National Library echelon 1 officials.

Acting Head of ANRI M. Taufik said, archive and library are two inseparable things. "Life is an archive, life is reading. An archive is attached as a person's identity and to understand it, we must read," he said.

He explained, his visit this time was to establish a friendly relationship between ANRI and National Library. It is expected that there will be cooperation between the two.

The same thing also expressed by Director of National Library, Muhammad Syarif Bando, that library and archive cannot be compared, because both have important role in life.

"At every opportunity, such as visits to the regions, it is always emphasised that libraries and archives are equally important. If the archive is good, but what’s the use if it is not read," he said.

Director of National Library likened library and archive as an airplane with one engine, with the right wing is library and archives are on the left wing, so synergy is needed between the two. "Hopefully this visit will be maintained in establishing positive relations between institutions," he concluded.
