Director of National Library: Don’t Get Caught Up with the Opinion Indonesia’s Culture Reading is Poor

Pancoran, Jakarta - The direction of President Jokowi in the second period of the administration is to create superior Indonesian human resources. And National Library is the one is expected to be able to raise human development index, especially at Asian level. human development index can be achieved if Indonesian people are smart. This is one of purposes the country is established.

"Indonesia is not a nation with poor reading culture. But the facts on the field are caused by insufficient access. Don't get caught up in international opinion but let's fix it together," said Director of National Library Muhammad Syarif Bando when delivering report at National Library National Coordination Meeting in Jakarta, Tuesday (25/2).

The presence of Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian as keynote speaker was to convince all local governments to have the awareness to provide reading materials suitable for their communities.

Education and library cannot be separated because library is the heart of education.

"There are no teachers about locality, but there are many books informing origin, customs and traditions. This can be managed by the region. Regions must really grow literacy," explained Syarif Bando.
