Librarian Strategies in Building Innovation of Literacy Programme
Pancoran, Jakarta - Librarian of Universitas Gadjah Mada Dr. Purwani Istiana, SIP., M.A. explained two innovations that need to be applied in a literacy programme. She explained this when presenting the material entitled "Librarian Strategies in Building Innovation of Literacy Programme to Create Excellent Human Resources" at National Coordination Meeting on Library at Bidakara Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday (02/26/2020).
"First, literacy material innovation itself. And (second) teaching innovation that we can give to students," she explained.
The literacy material, said Purwani, became part of the needs of educational institutions, namely as medium of publication and dissemination as well as its impact on people's lives. Therefore theses, mini theses, dissertations should no longer just stop as a repository in universities or decoration on library shelves.
"The expectation is that the results of research can be published, can be read by many people, so that there are more utilisation. Then from the use of these publications the impact can be felt by community. Whether the product can become a patent that can be used by industry or later it becomes a copyright in the book, " said Purwani.
Furthermore, Purwani explained about literacy innovation on teaching. Namely how librarian can teach students and lecturers by creating literacy class programme in universities or in libraries by creating independent programme, such as collaborating with lecturers, study programme and social media.
"For example, the recurring questions that librarians often encounter, we make the tutorial out of them. This is an example of me making a tutorial to find an accredited national journal uploaded on YouTube," she concluded.
