Belitung Regency Expects Additional Mobile Library Car

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta - Consisting of 5 sub-districts with a population of more than 175 thousand people, makes a mobile library car unable to serve the needs of Belitung Regency community. Moreover, the distance between deep villages and sub-districts is indeed quite far. This was conveyed directly by the Chairperson of Commission I Belitung Regency DPRD, Syamsir, during a visit to National Library on Wednesday (01/22).

"We expect facility such as mobile library car to be added because the benefits will be enormous for us which the distance between sub-districts is quite far," he explained.

In line with this, the Assistant of Belitung Regency Regional Government, Ita Wahyuni, who also there explained that the mobile library car assistance provided by the National Library in 2006 is now unable to operate optimally.

"To support the innovation program by Belitung Regency Government in education and community economic improvement field, we want library to also participate," said Ita. Furthermore she hopes that through library, public can also have access to information digitally as what has been developed by the National Library.

The Director of the National Library, Muhammad Syarif Bando, who received this visit, expressed his appreciation for the attention of the Commission I of Belitung Regency DPRD regarding library needs for its people. Syarif explained the importance of library for being present in the community

"Literacy can only be obtained by reading. And without literacy, people will be more deceived and their reasoning power is low," he explained. Therefore, he hopes that between government elements can work together to invite public in increasing literacy.
