National Library of Indonesia and NLYC of South Korea Campaign the Read Me a Book Program

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta - After being managed and succeed, the "Read Me a Book" program formed by South Korea's National for Children and Young Adults (NLCY) was held simultaneously in nine countries in the ASEAN region from 15 January to 23 April 2020. The nine countries are Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and Indonesia will launch a Read Aloud campaign-part of the Read Me a Book program, and then post it on social media along with predetermined hashtags. This literacy campaign will be assessed directly by NLYC as the organizer of the activity.

Specifically in Indonesia, the National Library is trusted to run the Read Me a Book program. The activity was opened directly by the Director of National Library, Muhammad Syarif Bando, at the National Library Children's Service, on Wednesday (1/15).

In front of Permata Madani Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT) students, Director of the National Library, Muhammad Syarif Bando, demonstrated his ability to read two books about the story of the Prophet Abraham against the tyranny of King Namrudz until finally he was burned and the patience of Moses to face the arrogance of King Pharaoh in Egypt.

"Read Me a Book" is Book is an acculturation program of reading fondness by “read aloud” method, which read books aloud to children. In reading a story book, each narrator must wear a yellow apron. The Read Aloud campaign aims to promote reading culture, especially in ASEAN countries.

"This program which involves librarians is planned to be held in 30 regions in Indonesia. And Tanggamus Regency in Lampung is designated as the opening area of the activity on January 20," said Head of the Library Development and Reading Interest Study Center, Deni Kurniadi.

The terms of Read Aloud campaign contest are that the book teller must wear a yellow apron, then upload a photo/video accompanied by hashtags and later upload it through the official instagram account of the National Library @perpusnas.go.id, with mandatory hashtags, namely #readmeabook_yellowapron, #yellowapron_hashtagchallenge, #aseanrokisreading_indonesia, #nationallibraryofindonesia. Include the hashtag of the library's short name and where the activity is carried out.
