3 Regional People’s Representative Assembly (DPRD) Together Visits National Library
Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta - Jambi Province DPRD, Pangkal Pinang City DPRD, and East Belitung Regency DPRD made a visit to the National Library Service Building, Friday (1/10). The visit that was received directly by the Director of National Library, Muhammad Syarif Bando, carried out in order to consult related to the management of library in the area.
Head of Commission I Jambi Province DPRD, Hapis Hasbiallah, and Deputy Head of Pangkal Pinang City DPRD, Rosdiansyah Rasyid, expect assistance to build library in their respective regions. "We already have a Library and Mobile Library Car, but the operation is not yet optimal," said Hapis. He hopes to get assistance so he can build a library that is comfortable for public and a mobile library that can reach public with limited access to reading materials.
Rosdiansyah also said something similar. "In Pangkal Pinang we are eager to have a good library, like National Library," he explained.
While the Head of East Belitung Regency DPRD, Fezzi Uktolseja, complained about the lack of reading material availability. "I am sure that the reading interest will increase if sufficient reading material is provided. But the reality is in our area there are none. Especially in rural areas," he complained.
In response to this, Muhammad Syarif Bando expressed his appreciation for the attention of assembly member to the library. He emphasized that National Library will always support regional libraries by collaborating with the local government as a policy maker.
"It must be clear. Like making sure the number of books available is in accordance with the population and reading material requirements," he emphasized. He further explained the need for regulation or Regional Regulation that clearly explain the allocation of funds used in library management in the regions.
"A country will go advance by reading. The depth of knowledge to create goods and services in facing global competition can be obtained by reading. That is actually what is called literacy," concluded Syarif.
