Special Committee of North Lombok and Bangka Regencies Consult on Library Regulation Drafting

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta - Literacy is included in the substance of human development, among others, the ability to gather adequate sources of reading material as preparation to become a professional, the ability to understand what is implied and written, the ability to express ideas and new innovations as well as the ability to create goods and services . This was conveyed by Director of National Library, Muhammad Syarif Bando when receiving a work visit of North Lombok and Bangka Regency DPRD Special Committee on Friday (6/12).

The work visit was a consultation activity related to libraries in their respective regions. In this meeting, Chairperson of North Lombok Regency DPRD Special Committee, Tusen Lashima expressed his being comfort at National Library and hoped that library in his region would be like this because at this time the library there was far from comfortable.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of Bangka Regency DPRD Special Committee, Kemas Herman Susilo questioned what should be done to increase public reading interest in Bangka Regency. He also asked for input related to regional library regulations.

"Literacy index must be a reference standard in library regulations," said Muhammad Syarif Bando. He also added that the main task of each element is to protect the entire nation, educate and prosper the nation towards a just and prosperous society.

"So, if it is possible, how literacy index can be part of regional government performance is mentioned in regional regulation. Because the President warned not to make regulations that could be burdensome if they were not implemented or even hampered," he said.

At the end of the activity, Director of National Library also advised and hoped that this regional regulation would later become the parent of regional education.
