National Library Supports Librarians to Be More Active in Writing

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta - The easy dissemination of information in this disruptive era as today makes people to be better at selecting information. That is where the role of librarians is needed in collecting, processing, to disseminating information and knowledge that is useful for public. One way can be done by writing. This was conveyed directly by the Head of Law and Planning Bureau of the National Library, Joko Santoso, when opening the Writing Workshop for Librarians at National Library Services Building on Tuesday (11/19).

In the event which was attended by 100 librarians, Joko explained that writing also had its own challenges. A writer must be able to adapt to who and what their readers' needs. "Therefore, it is important for librarians to learn to write creatively," he said.

Joko hopes that with an activity like this, Librarians will be able to understand how to put ideas in written form that is useful and easy to understand by the users of National Library services.

Anita Hairunnisa, founder and head of Bitread Digital Publishing who was present as a guest speaker said that pouring ideas into paragraphs in writing is indeed a challenge in itself. "Writing that is interesting requires practice. And there is no need to burden ourselves with what we have to write," said Anita.

Furthermore, Anita conveyed the importance of inventorying ideas that often appear in unexpected situations as written material. "We can use the devices we have to write," she added.

Simultaneously with this activity, Perpusnas Press was officially launched as a publisher of all publications owned by National Library and SiPENA as one of innovations in publishing management and also a repository of all National Library publications specifically in library and librarian field.
