Library in Gorontalo Province Lack of Book Collections

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta - Deputy Chairman of Gorontalo Province DPRD, Sofyan Puhi said, one of the obstacles which experienced by library in Gorontalo Province was the lack of book collections. This was revealed during a work visit to the Republic of Indonesia's National Library Service Building, Friday (11/8).

With the lack of collections, it becomes one of the challenges for the region in increasing reading interest in Gorontalo region. In addition, the small number of librarian's workforce is also an obstacle in developing the library.

"At present the Library Service Office in Gorontalo province is still merging with the Archives. And the obstacles we are experiencing right now are the lack of collections and also the lack of library staff. The librarians had attended the training, but after being trained, they moved. We hope that National Library can support this, related to the collection and also the library staff," he said.

Sofyan asserted, as a form of commitment in encouraging the acceleration of human resource development based on science in Gorontalo, as a legislative his party would support activities in the library.

Similar thing was also expressed by the Chairperson of Commission IV of the Gorontalo Province DPRD, Suharsi Igirisa, who wished for additional assistance in the collection of books. Suharsi explained, this year North Gorontalo Regency received DAK funds for building expansion of 4.2 billion.

"We hope that Gorontalo Province which has 5 regencies and one municipal receives the same attention as other regions, in developing libraries," he explained.

Responding to this, Head of Study Center and Reading Interest Development, Deni Kurniadi said, National Library has a training program for librarians and prospective librarians in improving quality with technical training, not only at the centre but also developing in the provincial areas.

"The number of library staff in school libraries, general and tertiary institutions is very large so there is a need for regional budget support. The budget for library is also regulated in Permendagri No. 33 of 2019 related to guidelines on the preparation of APBD. We hope that the legislators will help to develop the library. Related to collections, can be submitted to get a Special Allocation Funds. Regarding the collection, the regions will later spend it so they can meet their needs," he said.
