Gramedia Writers and Readers Forum 2019: Literacy in Diversity

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta-Gramedia Writes and Readers Forum (GWRF) 2019 was officially opened today, Friday (1/8). The event held for the second time was to be held at National Library. A total of 45 authors were presented at the event.

Gramedia Director of Publication and Education, Suwandi S. Brata, expressed his appreciation to National Library for the support given to GRWF 2019. "The big theme highlighted in this year's GRWF is Literacy in Diversity," he explained. With this theme, Kelvin hoped that diversity as the uniqueness of Indonesia can enrich the literacy of its people.

Indonesia is known as one of the countries with the highest ethnic, cultural and linguistic differences in the world. Central Statistics Agency has released data that 1,331 ethnic groups live in Indonesia, and 662 languages ​​were identified according to Language Agency. For the sake of maintaining diversity and wholeness, good literacy is required.


The event initiated by Gramedia in collaboration with National Library is a small effort to maintain unity in diversity. This event is a face-to-face forum, interaction, discussion, and sharing between writers and readers. GWRF is held for three days on August 2-4 at National Library, targeting 3,000 participants who came to watch.

A total of 45 professional book writers and presenters were presented to share experiences and share the real practice of literacy world. “A number of famous writers, such as Fiersa Besari, Ayu & Ditto, Aan Masnyur, Sapardi Djoko Damono, Retak Sedu, A. Fuadi, Budiman Sudjatmiko, Maman Suherman, Ayu Utami, and others. Talkshow and workshop of each writer carried a variety of typical millennial themes, culture and literature, to spirituality,” Suwandi added.
