Director of National Library Attends 73rd Bhayangkara Day Commemoration

Monas, Jakarta – Director of National Library of Indonesia Muhammad Syarif Bando attended the ceremony to commemorate the 73rd Bhayangkara Day held at Silang Monas, Jakarta, on Wednesday (10/7). This ceremony was chaired directly by President Joko Widodo.

Director of National Library of Indonesia Muhammad Syarif Bando conveyed his party encouraged Police of the Republic of Indonesia to participate in developing libraries in the regions. The reason is due to the scope of Polri's tasks to remote areas, that it can bring books closer to the public. "We encourage every police station at regency/municipal level and sub-district level to have library that can be used by the community. In addition, a reading corner can be developed in the regions. We hope National Library of Indonesia can immediately sign an MoU with the Police," he said.

President Jokowi as the inspector of the ceremony appreciated the performance of Indonesian Police in maintaining public security and order, law enforcement, and providing services to the public. The success of  Asian Games 2018 and 2019 general election, according to Jokowi, cannot be separated from the role of the Police. "Thank God, all the big agendas can be successful, because the hard work of the Police synergising with the TNI," Jokowi said.

Jokowi reminded the Police's challenges in the future is facing increasingly complex crimes. "Like conventional crimes that are still troubling the public, this must be a concern. And also transnational crime, cyber crime, and crimes disturbing social order," he explained.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Police Chief General Tito Karnavian conveyed that the Police is in the top three state institutions that received high public trust. Tito explained, public trust was obtained based on efforts to make improvement with professional, modern and trusted programmes (promoters) for the past three years. "This is focused on three main policies, namely performance improvement, culture improvement, and media management," said Tito.

In addition to the ceremony, the commemoration of Bhayangkara Day was also marked by a number of other activities, including performance by Police personnel, thanksgiving, and awarding outstanding Polri personnel.
