Book Review (Speech) of Bung Karno: Ignite the Spirit of Nationalism for Millennial Generation
Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta – To rise the spirit of Nationalism and Patriotism to millennial generation, UPT Library of Proclamator Bung Karno held a book review (speech) of Bung Karno "Djangan Sekali-kali Meninggalkan Sedjarah" at 2nd Floor Theatre Room, Service Facility Building of National Library, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan No. 11, Wednesday (15/5).
“Djangan Sekali-kali Meninggalkan Sedjarah” is the speech title delivered by President Soekarno on August 17, 1966. In his speech, Soekarno conveyed the journey of Indonesian nation and state for 21 years after independence proclamation.
Historian Rushdy Hoesein said President Soekarno gave title to that speech to maintain his political line. In his speech, Bung Karno called 1966 as a critical year because of the October One Movement (Gestok) event or known as G30S/PKI Movement. "This speech was the last speech of Soekarno as President that spoke about Indonesian revolution journey," he said.
Similar thing was also expressed by Roso Daras, the author of "Aktualisasi Pidato Terakhir Bung Karno". He said there were a number of interesting facts about the speech "Djangan Sekali-kali Meninggalkan Sedjarah-Never Leave History" read by President Soekarno on August 17, 1966. One of them, the topic raised is very actual and in many ways is still relevant today; such topic as conflict between political elites, threat of nation disintegration, younger generation exposed to western culture.
"If we expect younger generation, millennials to study, learn and make Bung Karno’s speech as a lesson and guidance, then it is necessary to actualise Bung Karno’s speeches. History is not to be repeated, but to be taken the lessons" explained he.
Meanwhile, Head of UPT Library of Proclamator Bung Karno, Janti Suksmarini, said that UPT Library of Proclamator Bung Karno had duties and functions to study collections about Bung Karno. Through this book review activity, it is expected to be able to explore Bung Karno’s ideas and thoughts. She expects millennial generation to continue the struggle of Indonesian nation, especially to always sustain the sense of nationalism and ignite patriotism within their souls.
