Nagekeo Regency Launches Nagekeo Literacy Festival 2019

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta—Nagekeo, is one of regencies in East Nusa Tenggara which is the result of Ngada Regency expansion. Although it is still 12 years old, Nagekeo Regency is ready to hold Literacy Festival in upcoming August 2019. This was conveyed by Nagekeo Regent, Johanes Don Bosco Do, at Literacy Festival soft launching at National Library Building on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan on Thursday (11/4).

Although it still young, Nagekeo Regency does not want to miss participating in spreading literacy virus. Especially in the digital era as today, in which literacy skill is absolutely required so as not to be left behind. “We all know that libraries are the support for civilization. Through literacy, Nagekeo Regency can brace digital era,” said Nagekeo Regent.

Literacy itself is not only interpreted as fondness for reading. Thus, at Nagekeo Literacy Festival, in August, Johanes said there would be weaving literacy, tour literacy, and culinary literacy.

Meanwhile, on the same occasion, Deputy of Library Material and Information Services Development of National Library, Ofy Sofiana, said that Indonesian had become a great nation as it is today because of the strong desire of its people to learn. Creating a literacy society is an absolute thing to do. Local governments can take advantage of mass moments, such as festival, book bazaar, or it can be by increasing quality reading sources accessible to everyone, both people living in villages and urban areas.

“Nagekeo Literacy Festival 2019 is the cooperation between Nagekeo Regency and National Library, so we hope that the holding of this event can be the first step in introducing Nagekeo Regency nationally,” said Ofy Sofiana.
