National Library and Maritim Security Agency Signs MOU and Launches Digital Reading Corner

Batam, Kepulauan Riau – National Library continues to synergise with various parties in developing library so that it can be accessed by all levels of society. One of its efforts is National Library signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation agreement with Maritime Security Agency of Republic of Indonesia (Bakamla) on Tanjung Datu Ship Deck, Batam on Thursday (21/3). Moreover, Digital Reading Corner (Pocadi) KN Tanjung Datuk the largest patrol boat owned by Bakamla was launched.

The inauguration was marked by a ribbon cutting by Head of Bakamla Vice Admiral (Laksdya) Achmad Taufiqorrohman and Director of National Library Muhammad Syarif Bando and accompanied by KN Tanjung Datuk Commander Capt. Nyoto Saptono, Director of Network IT & Solution PT Telkom Zulhelfi Abidin, National Library of Indonesia Deputy of Library Material and Information Service Development Ofy Sofiana, National Library of Indonesia Deputy of Library Resources Development Woro Titi Haryanti.

Head of Bakamla affirmed the commitment of his institution in helping to educate the nation’s life by providing library service inside the ship which can be utilised by personnel during their operational trip.

Welcoming Bakamla’s commitment in educating nation’s life, Director of National Library Muhammad Syarif Bando encouraged all Bakamla personnel and community to master science and technology and to study all content served in library. “Human resources quality is still low because there is still a lack of knowledge as a result of low level of interest in reading,” explained Syarif. Director of National Library also greatly appreciated Bakamla in establishing personnel strength through library, in which the memorandum of understanding that was established was the realisation of Nawa Cita on National Character Revolution initiated by President Jokowi.

The scope of memorandum of understanding between National Library and Bakamla includes several things, namely: developing human resources in the field of library, developing information and communication technology in the field of library, developing National Union Catalog (KIN) data, Indonesia One Search (IOS) and iPusnas digital repositories, joint development and utilisation of library collections, scientific meeting, research, publication, joint activities in the field of library and development of maritime village, collection and preservation of Printed and Recorded Works (KCKR) in the field of Indonesian maritime area and jurisdiction security and safety, as well as library network expansion at national and international scopes.

Currently, Pocadi KN Tanjung Datu is already equipped with 600 varied reading materials with 200 book titles which are grant items from National Library and also equipped with several gadget units to digitally access books.
