Ministry of Home Affairs and Institute of Home Affairs Governance (IPDN) Agreed upon Cooperation in Human Resources Quality Improvement through Library

Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta—With his distinctive style and calm manner, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo approached the table signing document of cooperation between Ministry of Home Affairs and National Library of Indonesia at National Library Service Executive Lounge at Medan Merdeka Selatan Street No. 11, Jakarta. That morning, Thursday (31/1), Ministry of Home Affairs and Institute of Home Affairs Governance (IPDN) carried out cooperation in human resources quality improvement through library. 

Citing Bung Karno’s statement, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo said that everyone should have dreams and ideas. The dreams and ideas are all originated from a mature concept. Mature concept is derived from proficiency on knowledge and history.

“Indonesia is a great nation. A nation may be advanced and great but do not ever loose its identity. Well, this cooperation is expected to mutually support each tasks and functions,” advised Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ministry of Home Affairs and National Library of Indonesia should have strategic goal. Inside is regulated a number of memorandums of understanding and cooperation scope, one of which is human resources utilisation and library development in the region.

At the same time, Tjahjo Kumolo also expressed gratitude to National Library of Indonesia for the aid of 200 thousands e-books and 50 thousands printed books to Ministry of Home Affairs and Institute of Home Affairs Governance (IPDN) as well as computer aid for digital library service.

“The aid is expected to support one of 2019 national policy main priorities, namely human resources development which is one of them is through literacy culture, in which library is the medium,” added Tjahjo. For information, today there are only around 43 millions Indonesians went to school, and the rest is more or less 200 millions citizens did not attend school but are fond of reading.

On the same occasion, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo and Director of National Library of Indonesia Muhammad Syarif Bando witnessed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU regulates more specifically MoU points between Ministry of Home Affairs and National Library of Indonesia relating to library resources utilisation and development in Ministry of Home Affairs, such as library and librarianship resources development, information and communication technology development in the field of library, national union catalogue (KIN) database development and Indonesia One Search (IOS) digital repository, iPusnas and e-resources, compilation of printed and recorded works (KCKR), as well as the expansion of national and international library networks.

Meanwhile, Rector of IPDN Murtir Jeddawi said that this cooperation is very useful to synergise programmes and activities through library utilisation in supporting Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
